Fifty Shades of Grey

Watching the TV programme on the publishing phenomenon that is Fifty Shades of Grey, I was fascintated to hear the (somewhat mixed) views of writers, journalists and celebrities like Kathy Lette, Rachel Johnson, and Jilly Cooper. Most gripping was EL James herself. OK so maybe she was told not to dress up and showing up in a dominatrix outfit wouldn't have been appropriate, but I live in admiration of authors who go on TV looking dead casual. I don't think she'd even had her hair done. Now I think JK Rowling has it right with her smart-casual look. So from what I've gleaned so far, appearing like you haven't tried too hard is tough to achieve but definitely the way to go.

Showing up in a dominatrix outfit - now that really would have caused a stir! I'd have loved it if she did mind :-)
