Silja Swaby, half Jamaican, half Finnish, is a marine biologist and author. Funded by Arts Council England, she has won competitions, and been placed in prizes and awards. She is working on a series of futuristic thrillers, featuring a female biologist whose quiet academic life takes a drastic turn. Silja has taken creative writing courses at Cambridge University and more recently Yale University, USA.
Silja tutors writers, gives workshops, and provides a critique service. She is happily unmarried and lives in deepest Somerset, UK.

Girl's tattoo gets one star
Steig Larsson's Girl with the Dragon Tattoo just isn't doing it for me. I borrowed it from the library mainly to see what the hype was about - and hype it was. 'Get past the first 50 pages - then you'll be hooked.' Bad advice. After wading through tons of exposition, clunky paragraphs, sudden changes in point of view and on p. 220, no less than seven 'he hads' in one paragraph (albeit a longish one), I gave up. In desperation I read the one stars on Amazon's review. Should have gone there sooner.

It's interesting how, what one person loves another will hate. A good reason never to be disheartened by a one star review! A actually really loved this book!
